Our dogs are carefully selected for working drive, stamina, intelligence and temperament towards handlers. We start with young dogs usually between the ages of 8 months and two years. The dogs go through many hours and weeks of in house training. They first learn to locate bed bugs in this "foundation training".

Once they know what they are hunting for, we begin to fine tune their training and start proofing them off of other odors. This is where we start teaching them to distinguish between live bugs, viable eggs, skin casts and dead bugs.

At this point we move their training into the field. Here the dogs start real world training and environmental changes. By the time they are ready to be placed with their new handler, the dogs are confident, accurate working machines. They love their job and are eager to please. To watch these dogs work is truly amazing.

The Jack Russell Terrier:

Long used for their excellent hunting drive, these dogs are intelligent and fearless. They are able to get into small areas and under/behind furniture with ease. Their small size has many advantages.

The Beagle:

Commonly used in Bed Bug Detection, the Beagle's nose is superior. Their calm disposition make them an easily handled dog.

The Belgian Malinois:

The high performance sports car of working dogs. These dogs are often used as Police K-9's because of their explosive speed, extreme drive and focus. They have been used as arson dogs, explosives and narcotic detection for decades. They make great Bed Bug Detection Dogs as well. They are better suited for experienced K-9 handlers. They excel at covering a lot of ground quick. Places like movie theaters, warehouses, large buildings, airports, bus terminals and train stations are where a "Mal" can be very beneficial.
